About Moneghetti
Les Moneghetti – Muneghëti in Monégasque – is the steep, north-central quarter where the Alps come down to the sea, a residential hillside above La Condamine that borders France along its upper edge. It was long counted as part of La Condamine.
Its streets are terraces and switchbacks: Boulevard de Belgique, Boulevard Rainier III and Boulevard du Jardin Exotique carry the traffic across the slope, while Rue Bosio, Rue Louis-Aureglia and Rue Malbousquet run between them, and stairways and public lifts link the levels. Square Lamarck, with its garden, is the neighbourhood's small centre.
Its landmark is the Église du Sacré-Cœur, built from 1926 to 1929 as a Jesuit church to designs by Fulbert Aureglia and Louis Notari, and the quarter's parish church since 1965. Down in the ravine below stands the Chapelle Sainte-Dévote, and on the boulevard the Théâtre des Muses and the Villa Ispahan of 1910.
