The Lycée Albert-Ier occupies the convent of the Visitation, built between 1665 and 1675 at the wish of Princess Catherine-Charlotte de Gramont, wife of Louis I, for young noblewomen; its vaulted cloister survives. Sardinian troops used it as a barracks until 18 July 1860, Italian Jesuits opened a college in it on 31 May 1870, and in 1910 Prince Albert I made it a state, secular lycée – today at 1 Place de la Visitation.
