The Japanese Garden was commissioned by Prince Rainier III in 1994 from the landscape designer Yasuo Beppu, winner of the Osaka flower exhibition of 1990, and laid out on 0.7 hectares beside the Grimaldi Forum. It is a miniature of Shinto ideas – a stylised mountain and hill, a waterfall, a beach, a brook and a lake, with a Zen garden for meditation and a tea house. It is a municipal park, open every day from 9 am until sunset.
