The Larvotto beach is the principality's public shore along Avenue Princesse-Grace, a pebble beach that bathers have used since the railway reached Monaco in 1868. It looks onto the Larvotto marine reserve, fourteen hectares where fishing, anchoring and boat traffic are banned – home to about six hundred noble pen shells and to brown groupers – and the beach clubs and restaurants line the promenade behind it.
