The Musée d'Anthropologie préhistorique was founded in 1902 by Prince Albert I to keep the prehistoric human remains found in Monaco and the surrounding region. Prince Rainier III moved it in 1959 to the Jardin Exotique, into a building by the architect Louis Rué, and it remains a research institute with its own excavations and publications, entered between the garden and the Villa Paloma.
