The Ministry of State – the Hôtel du Gouvernement – is the residence and office of the Minister of State and the seat of the General Secretariat, on the Place de la Visitation. A plaque on the façade records that it was built by Prince Albert I and inaugurated on 18 June 1894, on the site where in 1717 Prince Antoine I had built «Le Désert», a house among gardens where Princess Marie de Lorraine liked to withdraw. It is neo-classical in style.
