The house
The Shangri-La Paris is the former palace of Prince Roland Bonaparte, a Louis XIV-style house built by the architect Ernest Janty between 1892 and 1895, a short walk from the Trocadéro.
The prince, a geographer and botanist, filled it with his herbaria and a library of some 150,000 rare books.
From 1929 the Suez Canal Company had it remodelled by Michel Roux-Spitz; the State later used it for foreign-trade offices.
Restored as a hotel, it opened on 17 December 2010 and received the Palace distinction in 2014 – with views of the Eiffel Tower close at hand.
