The house
The George V opened in 1928 on the avenue George V, in the Champs-Élysées quarter of the 8th arrondissement, and was named for the British king.
Its architect, Georges Wybo – the man behind the Casino de Deauville – gave it nine storeys of great restraint in the style of the period.
Its first guests were largely Americans off the transatlantic liners, met by the hotel's own office at the port of Cherbourg; tapestries from Flanders, Boulle furniture, a Renoir and a Dufy arrived in the 1930s.
It reopened as the Four Seasons Hotel George V in December 1999 and joined France's Palaces in 2011. Le Cinq is its restaurant.
