The house
The Peninsula Paris stands on the avenue Kléber, a few steps from the Arc de Triomphe, in the building the architect Armand Sibien raised between 1905 and 1908 as the Hotel Majestic.
It replaced the Palais de Castille, where the exiled Queen Isabella II of Spain lived for 36 years.
The State bought the building in 1936; from 1946 to 1958 it housed UNESCO's provisional headquarters.
Sold in 2007, it reopened as The Peninsula Paris on 1 August 2014 after four years of renovation and received the Palace distinction in 2016.
