The house
The Lutetia is the great hotel of the Left Bank: built in 1910 in the Art Nouveau style by Louis-Charles Boileau and Henri Tauzin, opposite the Bon Marché on the boulevard Raspail.
Its name is Paris's Roman one, and the sculpted vines on the façade recall the vineyards of ancient Lutèce.
In April 1945 General de Gaulle made it the reception centre for deportees returning from the camps.
Restored to plans by Jean-Michel Wilmotte, it reopened in 2018, became a Palace in 2019 and, since 2025, has been run by Mandarin Oriental.
