The house
Le Meurice faces the Tuileries from the rue de Rivoli, between the Place de la Concorde and the Louvre, and stretches back to the rue du Mont-Thabor.
It began as an inn for English travellers on the Calais road and moved here in 1835, into a building on the model of Napoleon's architects Percier and Fontaine.
Between 1898 and 1907 the architect Henri-Paul Nénot rebuilt it behind its listed façades to compete with the new Ritz; Queen Victoria had stayed on its first floor in 1855.
It received the Palace distinction in 2011; its rooms are decorated in the Louis XVI style.
