The house
The Martinez opened on the Croisette on 20 February 1929, an Art Deco front some hundred metres long facing the Bay of Cannes and the Lérins Islands.
It rose on the site of the Villa Marie-Thérèse, demolished to make way for what was then the largest hotel in the region, built by the Nice architect Charles Palmero with interiors by Pierre Veneuvot.
Requisitioned in turn by the French, Italian and German armies during the Second World War, it has stood ever since some 500 metres from the Palais des Festivals – the address of the Cannes Film Festival.
Its restaurant is La Palme d'Or.
